Satisfying others

IMG_2028

I am thinking how much of my life has been spent on satisfying others, rather than myself. This could be true for many of us.

When we are children, we need to please our parents. When we are at school, we need to satisfy our teachers.  Schools, grades, transcripts and etc.  have been created to educate people through evaluations. The evaluation that is made by people like us (others).  A child or a teenager has to satisfy the requirements by the examiner in order to pass.  If not, there will be no progress for them.

This has become like a norm and part of our daily lives. We are measured by different criteria that are made by our fellows. Somebody, who is like us, suddenly come to a position to evaluate our work or even criticise it.

We are evaluated and examined by others all the time. There are endless examples of these evaluations. When we are adults, we need to satisfy our university professor or our boss, or anyone else who is in charge. If we apply for a university admission, we get evaluated. If we apply for a job, we need to be approved by an evaluation committee.

Is this the life that we want for ourselves and others? Why should we get evaluated in our entire life? When would be the time with no evaluation, no examination, and no criticism?
